He calls them BLUESTRONICA: an eclectic mix of blues, other musical styles and electronic manipulation.
Most of the trax on this album have already been released in 2023 on a series of EP’s but there are also a few new.

Moe Joe – koncertfelvételek a török zenekartól
A Moe Joe nevű formációt, amelyet „a valaha volt első törökországi elektromos blueszenekarnak” neveznek, Feramerz Ayadi és Vefa Karatay 1994 augusztusában alapította. Az együttes induláskor a háború utáni Chicago blues klasszikusokra helyezte a hangsúlyt, így idővel Törökország különböző városaiban a fellépéseiknek otthont adó helyszínek a helyi purista közönség menedékévé váltak. 1996-ban Sarp Keskiner (ének, gitár és szájharmonika) és Ilhan Babaoglu (alt- és szopránszaxofon) csatlakozott a zenekarhoz, mindketten addig a fenomenális Istanbul Blues Company jól ismert tagjai voltak. Keskiner érkezésével a Moe Joe repertoárjában a saját szerzeményeik kerültek túlsúlyba. 1998-ban az együttes zenei teljesítménye csúcsára ért a szájharmonika-virtuóz, fuvolaművész Tugrul Aray csatlakozásával. 1996-ban és 1997-ben az Efes Pilsen Blues Fesztiválon lehetőségük nyílt arra, hogy olyan legendákkal osszák meg a színpadot, mint Guitar Shorty, Eddie Kirkland és Nappy Brown. Miután 2000-ben kiadásra került debütáló albumuk, a Chicago Istanbul Mainline, számos magazinban, weboldalon, rádióban és tévécsatornán adtak interjút és vendégszerepeltek. 2001-től karibi, brazil és kubai ritmusok jelentek meg zenéjükben, majd rövid ideig free jazz zenészekkel dolgoztak együtt. Októberben Live in 2002 & 2009 címmel tizenegy számot tartalmazó lemezük jelent meg, mely Isztambulban, Ankarában és Izmirben rögzített koncertfelvételeiket tartalmazza. Recently we released:
MoeJoe, now respectively known as “the ever first electric blues band in Turkey” was founded by Feramerz Ayadi, İzi Ergil and Vefa Karatay in 1994, in Istanbul. Instead of other contemporary blues rock bands which were keen to cover the scholastic repertoire of 60’s and 70’s alumnis, Moe Joe chose a different path to follow by putting an emphasize on covering the milestones of post-war Chicago blues repertoire thus, choosing to struggle hard on the club scene for finding a venue in late 90’s. Hence, in time, the venues hosting the performances of the band in various cities in Turkey became a shelter for local purist audiences.
In 1996, Sarp Keskiner (vocal, guitar, harmonica) and İlhan Babaoğlu (alto and soprano saxophone) joined the band; both were until then well – known members of phenomenal Istanbul Blues Company. Under guidance of Keskiner and Ayadi, Moe Joe centered upon Chicago Southside & Westside standards, spicy Detroit style boogies, early Texas shuffles and dark Louisiana grooves.
Between 1998 and 2001, the band set the heights for the musical quality of this genre on the national scene by adding harmonica virtuoso – flautist Tuğrul Aray to its line-up and back from NYC, enter Ergin Özler to take over the drum stool aiming at to bring the swinging authenticity to the sextet.
After releasing the “all originals” debut album, “Chicago Istanbul Mainline” in 2000, Moe Joe received rave reviews from national and international music media; having been interviewed and guested on various magazines, web sites, radio and TV channels.
From 2001 Caribbean, Brazilian and Afro – Cuban beats into their well-established sound, while stabilizing the line up as a quintet; with addition of Özün Usta (conga, djembe, cajon). Within this context, live recordings compiled in this album which were recorded in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir direct to DAT tapes feature the diversity of a veteran Turkish blues band, which is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary of foundation in 2024.

James “Boo Boo” Davis is geboren en getogen in Drew Mississippi. Hij is een overlever en behoort tot de laatste generatie muzikanten die de blues schrijven en spelen, gebaseerd op ervaringen uit de eerste hand van een zwaar leven in de Mississippi Delta. Boo Boo heeft nooit leren lezen of schrijven, maar dat weerhield hem er niet van de wereld rond te reizen en zijn muziek en gedachten met zijn publiek te delen. De blues hielp hem zijn geest fris te houden en om in het dagelijkse leven te overleven. zijn Blues handelt over alle fundamenten van het leven over; goed en slecht, ingewikkeld en eenvoudig.
Tot nu toe heeft Boo Boo 9 CD’s uitgebracht op Black and Tan Records en zijn muziek was te zien en horen in verschillende tv-series, films en commercials (o.a. Suits, Sons Of Anarchy). Alle nummers op deze compilatie zijn tussen 1999 en 2019 eerder uitgebracht op Black and tan Records. De nummers op dit compilatie album zijn persoonlijke verhalen over het leven van Boo Boo.
Dit compilatiealbum van Boo Boo Davis zal de luisteraar als de echte blues in de oren klinken. De stem van Boo Boo klinkt zoals we van een oude blues man verwachten, hier en daar wat fragiel soms wat moeite met de controle, maar dat maakt de muziek van Boo Boo Davies zo origineel. Die nummers geven een gevarieerd overzicht van de mans carrière; van klassieke mondharmonica blues, tot swingende piano boogie woogie, tot aan gospel in het afsluitende Thank you Dave.
Het album opent met het stevige Boo Boo Blues, een fijne binnenkomer waar op een strakke beat Boo Boo de pannen van het dak blaast. Meer jazzy is Sad Thing, het is de swing in dit nummer die het onweerstaanbaar maakt. Het mondharmonica spel van Boo Boo is hier smaakvol passend bij de feel van het nummer. De Piano doet hier een duit in het zakje wat zich door zet in de piano boogie van Boo’s Boogie Woogie. Top nummer hier hoef ik geen woorden over vuil te maken, dit is swingen geblazen. Boo Boo Fool tapt dan weer uit een gehaal ander vaatje, de nadruk licht hier op de stem van Boo Boo, de gitaar en de drums klinken hier lekker rauw, en de mondharmonica gruizig.
Het album vervolgt met fijne blues tracks als Sure had a wonderful time en East St louis wat op zijn eerste solo album staat dat bij black and Tan records uitkwam. beide nummer zitten vol swing en laten verfijnd gitaar en piano spel horen. Drew Mississippi is nummer waarin Boo Boo begeleid door de gitaar verhaalt over het harde leven op de plantages en zijn leven als muzikant. Boo Boo Davis is bovenal een mondharmonica speler, en ondanks het feit dat hij bezing in I’m getting old is daar in zijn spel nog weinig van te merken. Keep your car locked deint op een stevige groove, een aanklacht op het feit dat je in sommige gebieden van de grote steden je jezelf beter niet kunt tonen. De splijtende harmonica uithalen en het gitaar werk zijn superb.
Als er een rode draad is die door het werk van Boo Boo Davis loopt is het de swing en de boogie woogie, mooie staaltje hiervan zagen we al voorbij komen en met Red door krijgen we hier nog een mooi voorbeeld van. Een slow blues kan ook niet ontbreken en Want nobody to tell me how to live my life, verhaalt over het willen vrij zijn om je eigen weg te kunnen bepalen, doorspekt met de uithalen op de mondharmonica, een lekker nummer. What the blues is all about, is onmiskenbaar blues uit de tijd dat hij als trio toerde met John Gerritse op drums and Jan Mittendorp op gitaar. De geweldige mondharmonica speler die hij is gooit hij eruit in het fanatische Dirt Road, klasse. Het afsluitede en wat vreemde Thank you Dave is een gospel track over Jesus die hij als Dave mocht aanspreken en die hem op de weg zette om muzikant te worden.
Zo is de samenstelling van dit compilatiealbum een mooie overzicht van het leven en werk van Boo Boo Davies, een album vol mooie authentieke blues.

Boo Boo Davis was born and raised in Drew Mississippi. He is a survivor and belongs to the last generations of musicians that write and play the blues based on first hand experience of a hard life in the Mississippi Delta.
Boo Boo never learned to read or write but that did not prevent him to travel the world and share his music and thoughts with his audiences. Following his guiding spirit (that he calls Dave) Boo Boo found a way to deal with modern society. The blues helps him to keep his spirit high and survive day-to-day life. It deals with all the basic raw elements of life; good and bad, complicated and simple.
So far Boo Boo has released 9 CD’s on Black and Tan Records and his music was featured in several tv series, movies and commercials (A.o. Suits, Sons Of Anarchy, Resident Alien, The Recall, Marlboro, 5-Hour-Energy drink).
All songs on this compilation have been released before on Black and Tan Records between 1999 and 2019. They tell personal stories about Boo Boo; ranging from very trivial issues to deep thoughts about life. This is BOO BOO’S BLUES.

Boo Boo Davis—The Trio 2008 – 2019—Black & Tan B&T 356
Mississippi-born, Saint Louis-based drummer, harmonica player and especially gravel-voiced singer in the vein of Howling Wolf, Boo Boo Davis toured and recorded in Europe as a trio with Black & Tan Records boss Jan Mittendorp and John Gerritse during the timespan of the title. Sadly, all good things come to an end, and COVID put a stop to the tours, with all three men now deciding they’re now all getting a bit too old for this kind of junket. It’s a shame, but understandable – after all, Boo Boo was born in 1943 and is one of the few remaining bluesmen to have actually picked cotton in the Delta. Born on 3rd November, he’ll turn 80 this year.
So, what these guys have done is to pick fifteen of their favourite tracks from their shared discography. It’s a strong idea too – the releases have been varied, from the straight up down home Mississippi sound to blues electronica, and the hour’s worth of music here varies from the straight-forward raw sound of ‘Boo Boo Blues’ – which sounds like it should be on a 78 from Modern Records – ‘St. Louis Woman’ and ‘Cryin’ Woman’, all with fine harp and the last named with a strongly Rice Miller-ish vocal, on up to the blues-rock influenced approach of ‘Stay From The Casino’ and ‘Silvermine’ and the more mellow southern-soul styled ‘Why You Wanna Do It’.
A lovely collection then – it’s great to listen to, but it does also make me hope that these guys might yet agree to “never say never again”.
Boo Boo Davis und besondere Begleiter
Da gab es mal ausführliche Touren. Dann der Stillstand durch die Corona-Pandemie. Freunde sammelten Geld, damit sich der Blues-Künstler Boo Boo Davis über Wasser halten konnte. John Gerritse, Jan Mittendorp und Boo Boo Davis, der nun auf die 80 zugeht, haben für „The Trio 2008-2019“ (Black and Tan Records) ihre liebsten Stücke zusammengestellt. Eine berührende wie beachtliche Bilanz. Boo Boo Davis aus Drew/Mississippi schont weder seine Stimme noch hält er sich mit wildem Mundharmonika-Spiel zurück. Nicht weniger roh fährt die Gitarre mit wahnsinnigem Wah-Wah dazwischen oder poltert das Schlagzeug. Grandios, weil unverschämt direkt. „Hold Your Head Up“ heißt ein Song. Gute Maxime. Das haben die drei über eine lange Zeit hinbekommen.
