The new CD release of David Philips
CD B&T 043- David Philips – The Rooftop Recordings 2
will be limited to 1000 numbered copies. You can order your copy now and we will ship them in the first half of October.
In late May 2016 David Philips returned to his Barcelona rooftop apartment to record the Rooftop Recordings 2. David strips it right back to the bare essentials : guitar and voice captured with just 2 microphones and all doors and windows wide open. The result is a record that concentrates on the important aspects of Philips’ music, those being the songs and stories, soul tinged vocals and highly accomplished guitar playing. Philips is also a talented painter/draughtsman and the CD artwork is made up of a selection of his own watercolour paintings of birds that visit the Barcelona rooftops regularly. This special artwork version is limited to 1000 copies.
B&T 956 – Rivherside – Electraw Blues Album
A new full album of this French electro blues pioneer.
After playing for many years in different blues bands, Renaud Villet, a singer/guitarist/producer based in Clermont-Ferrand (France) launched his solo career in 2012 under the name Rivherside. His first album, “Something on My Mind,” was strongly blues / roots orientated. It received great reviews and as a result Rivherside did more than 80 concerts as a one-man-band. In 2014 he decided to broaden his horizons and began to mix Blues with Electro and Hip-Hop sounds, releasing the self-produced, 4-track “Electraw Blues EP.” Rivherside also began performing live in this electro configuration, playing samples and using Ableton Live software. In 2015 he collaborated with rapper TDB and together they released the “Inner Voices” EP in early 2016 . And now, he’s back with a new 12-track album; all as part of Rivherside’s ongoing quest to push the envelope of the Blues universe. this review was published in the latest BluesLetter of the Washington Blues Society:
Doug MacLeod – Live in Europe
Doug MacLeod’s latest release on the Netherlands- based Black and Tan label captures the two-time Blues Music Award-winning acoustic bluesman live in 2006. While his most recent release on California-based Reference Recordings have certainly garnered “Dubb” some well-deserved recognition, Live in Europe features 11 songs from an out-of-print DVD, The Blues In Me. This is the first digital-only release I have reviewed in the Bluesletter, and while I miss holding a CD in my hands and reading the liner notes and story behind the production of this release, I think that Live in Europe represents the future. A future that distributes music on a number of digital platforms, such as Amazon Music, iTunes and Spotify. Continue reading review Doug MacLeod / Washington Blues Society
